This week was so amazing!
Sister Talbot and I found five new
investigators!!! We're so surprised by our success! We've found most of them
from simply knocking on doors, so that's super cool! I can testify that the
Lord will put the people who are ready, in our path.
So Sister Talbot is from Texas and she has been
serving for 3 months. She's a really solid missionary!
Our recent convert's daughter has been more and
more open with us when we go visit. She finds missionary life to be very
interesting and always asks us about what we do. We had dinner with them last
night and we shared a message about the Atonement with them. I tried asking if we could come back and teach her more about the Atonement and
keeping the commandments and she...kind of said yes? We'll see if she becomes
more interested soon...
A new ward missionary got called. He is from Chile. He came out with us this week and he was so
awesome! It really makes a world of a difference when members come teach with
us. He doesn't know it but he made me realize that when we're talking to people
we need to emphasize the importance of families, so that they can see how the
gospel has relevance to them personally. I know that may seem kind of obvious
but usually while street contacting we just tell people about the Book of
Mormon and about prophets, but the doctrine of families is what can spark an
interest in the first place.
We were looking for a potential investigator
that I had met with Sister Miller previously, and while we went to her house we
talked to her brother instead. It was so cool to talk about
the Book of Mormon with him. He had lots of questions about it, including if
Christ came here to America, and so we read some of 3 Nephi 11 with him. That
was crazy since during companion study that morning, that was the chapter we
had read together.
On Saturday we met with a less-active and he was so sweet! He gave us a ton of almonds from his
job. He's been going through a hard time and I felt like we needed to teach him
the Plan of Salvation. So we did, and it was really good! He actually taught us something.
He said that sometimes the way that God answers our prayers is by giving us a
trial so that we can learn something from it. We never really thought of it
that way before.
Our Ward Mission Leader continues to be the best of the best. We taught a recent convert who is 9 years
old and this brother did such an awesome job of teaching him about the
Restoration in a very simple way. I want to be able to teach it that way too,
since really when we teach anyone, it needs to be simple enough that a child
can understand. We also had dinner at the Mission Leader's house this week and I
joked that he has a General Authority-sounding voice. Seriously though, his
mannerisms and voice remind me of a cross between Elder Ballard and Elder
Bednar.
Yesterday Sister Talbot actually fell off of
her bike and scraped her knees real bad. But it's all good. She's feeling
better now. We were able to laugh about it too, since it's her first Sunday in
this ward and she made a grand entrance by coming into the building with bloody
knees.
It was also pretty funny because before she met
the elders I warned her that they are really crazy. She quickly discovered what
I meant! One time they texted us and said they had packages for her, and said,
"Sister Talbot, the skirts your family sent you fit Elder Owens almost
perfectly!" Haha. It's pretty crazy that my district is basically the same
people again! Sister Miller is the only one who left this transfer. That's
cool, though, I love these elders!
The Church is true, the Book is blue, and Jesus
is a Mormon!

¡Esta semana estuvo muy bien!
¡La hermana Talbot y yo encontramos a cinco
nuevos investigadores! La verdad es que nos sorprende el éxito que hemos tenido
y a la mayoría de ellos los encontramos tocando puertas, así que fue bien
padre. Puedo testificar que el Señor pone en nuestro camino a las personas que
están dispuestas a escuchar.
Por cierto que la hermana Talbot es de Texas,
lleva tres meses en la misión y es una excelente misionera.
La hija de nuestra reciente conversa se ha
mostrado cada vez más abierta con nosotras cuando las visitamos. A ella le
parece muy interesante esto de la vida de los misioneros y siempre nos hace
preguntas sobre lo que hacemos; anoche cenamos en su casa y compartimos con
ellas un mensaje sobre la Expiación. Le pregunté si podíamos regresar y
enseñarle más sobre la Expiación y el guardar los mandamientos, y como que dijo
que sí. Entonces ya veremos pronto si se interesa más en el asunto.
En el barrio llamaron a un nuevo misionero de
barrio y se trata de un hermano que es de Chile. La semana pasada nos acompañó
a visitar a personas y la verdad es que es muy bueno. En serio que marca un
mundo de diferencia tener a miembros que enseñen con nosotras. El hermano no se
dio cuenta, pero me hizo ver que al hablar con la gente tenemos que hacer
hincapié en la importancia de la familia, a fin de que vean la relevancia que
tiene el Evangelio en su vida personal. Sé que es obvio pensarlo, pero, normalmente,
siempre que hablamos con personas en la calle solamente hablamos del Libro de
Mormón y de los profetas, pero la doctrina de la familia podría despertar más
el interés.
También el otro día andábamos buscando a una
posible investigadora que conocimos con la hermana Miller, pero en vez de ella
encontramos a su hermano y hablamos con él. Fue bien padre conversar con él
sobre el Libro de Mormón. Nos hizo un montón de preguntas, entre ellas si
Cristo había estado en el continente americano, y así que leímos con él 3 Nefi
11. Fue curioso porque esa mañana habíamos estudiado juntas precisamente ese
capítulo.
El sábado fuimos a ver a un miembro menos
activo y se portó muy lindo con nosotras. Nos regaló un montón de almendras que
le dieron en su trabajo. Últimamente la ha estado pasando mal y tuve la
sensación de que teníamos que enseñarle sobre el Plan de Salvación. Así que
hablamos de eso con él y la verdad es que estuvo muy bien. De hecho nos enseñó
algo, ya que dijo que a veces la manera en que Dios contesta nuestras oraciones
es por medio de una prueba para que podamos aprender algo de ella. La verdad es
que nunca antes lo habíamos visto de esa manera.
El líder de la obra misional del barrio sigue
siendo el mero mero. El otro día le enseñamos a un reciente converso que tiene
nueve años, y el hermano le enseñó con palabras simples sobre la Restauración,
pero lo hizo de una manera genial. A mí me gustaría poder enseñar de esa forma,
ya que al enseñar a las personas tiene que ser lo suficientemente simple que
hasta un niño pueda entender. También en la semana fuimos a cenar a la casa del
hermano y le dije en broma que tiene la voz de una Autoridad General. En serio,
sus gestos y su voz me recuerda una combinación entre el élder Ballard y el
élder Bednar.
Ayer, la Hna. Talbot se cayó de la bicicleta y
se raspó las rodillas bien feo. Pero está todo bien y ahora ya se siente mucho
mejor. De toda maneras hicimos chiste del incidente, ya que fue su primer
domingo en el barrio y dijimos que había hecho su entrada triunfal al edificio
sangrando de las rodillas.
También fue divertido porque antes de que
conociera a los élderes le advertí que ellos son medio locos y ella rápidamente
se dio cuenta a lo que me refería. El otro día nos enviaron un mensaje de texto
y dijeron que tenían un paquete para ellas y pusieron: Hna. Talbot: las faldas
que le envió su familia le quedan a la perfección al élder Owens. ¡Qué
chistoso! Es curioso que mi distrito haya quedado casi igual, ya que la única
que se fue en este cambio fue la Hna. Miller. Pero está bien, porque los
élderes me caen muy bien.
¡La Iglesia es verdadera, el libro es azul y
Jesús es mormón!
